Five stars!
Our evening out to see The Balusters on Broadway was the kind of night that reminds you why you live in New York. The photo montage kicks off with a gorgeous mural we caught on our way out of the subway at 50th Street — already a good sign.
The show earned five Tony nominations, including Best Play, with acting nods for Richard Thomas and Marylouise Burke (who was out the night we saw it), and honestly, every single one of them was deserved. The ensemble was extraordinary. We loved Sophie Hayden in the role of Penny Buell. We often say that the understudies really kill it!
But here’s where the evening went from great to genuinely memorable: we stayed for the stage door. We’d never done it before, and I don’t know why we waited so long — we managed to snap photos of nearly the entire cast and came away with quite a few autographs on our playbills. My husband was absolutely, unabashedly giddy.
It was the best kind of Broadway night.
