Some friends were in town for the weekend and wanted to do a food tour — something you don’t really think to do when you’re a local. Honestly, my everyday life kind of is one big food tour. But we figured, why not, and they signed us all up for a food tour through Chinatown and Little Italy.
Chinatown started us off right: pork and chive dumplings, then pork buns, spongie cakes, and Vietnamese tea. From there we wandered into Little Italy for ravioli, pizza (obviously), and a finish of cheesecake and cannoli. A glorious, gluttonous afternoon.
Saturday night, we headed down to the Lower East Side for a show at Theatre for the New City called Doughboys. It was having a limited run here on its way to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Great show — I hope it kills it in Scotland.
And then, the finale: a speakeasy called Attaboy, tucked away on Eldridge Street on the Lower East Side. No menu — you just tell the bartender what you like, and they build you something custom on the spot. Amazing.
