Human Places is a photo journal created by Angelique Andrae.

My husband and I first came to New York City part-time in November of 2021 and the city claimed us almost immediately. We made it our full-time home in August of 2025, and the love affair shows no signs of fading.

I started photographing New York City because I felt a pull toward preservation — a need to bear witness to the city as it exists right now. You’ll see that I spend a lot of time in Central Park, but I’m also drawn to the worn stoops and golden-hour windows. The faces in motion, the stillness between. The thousand small details that make up the living, breathing fabric of this place. Cities are in constant conversation with time, and I want to record what’s being said in this moment.

Every photograph is an act of attention. This journal is my way of paying it.

I’m so glad you’re here. Explore, linger, and see New York City through my eyes.
